What's Happening in the Congo...

The Democratic Republic of Congo's mineral wealth, like cobalt & coltan powering our tech world, conceals a harrowing truth. Extraction drives conflict, violence, and unimaginable horrors, driven by Western demand.

Millions suffer
displacement, land theft, forced labor, and recruitment into unspeakable conditions, perpetuating a cycle of agony. This exploitation fuels a humanitarian crisis—families torn apart, lacking essentials, and enduring disease outbreaks amidst strife.
This conflict is not a tribal war.

Conflict and Violence

The Democratic Republic of Congo, rich in resources vital to our technology, has been torn by conflict. Armed groups and militias have subjected its people to unimaginable violence, displacing millions and perpetuating a cycle of brutality. Unfortunately, the minerals fueling our technological advancements often emerge from these conflict zones, indirectly linking us to their suffering.

Mining Industry in the Congo

Responsible for extracting minerals like cobalt, tragically involves exploitation. Vulnerable populations, including children and adults, endure forced labor in hazardous mines. Their sacrifices contribute to the resources that power our smartphones, electric vehicles, and other technological marvels.

Humanitarian Crisis & Displacement

Conflict has led to a dire humanitarian crisis. Families are displaced, lacking basic necessities due to conflict-induced displacement. Millions of people are internally displaced or have sought refuge in neighboring countries due to violence and conflict. These individuals face a lack of shelter, water, food, and healthcare, amplifying the suffering of a population struggling amidst conflict and exploitation.

Healthcare Challenges & Disease

Access to healthcare in Congo is limited, exacerbating the impact of diseases like Ebola and other preventable illnesses. Outbreaks further strain an already fragile healthcare system, affecting communities that have been enduring immense hardships.

The world has undoubtedly benefited from the resources harvested amidst these atrocities. However, this benefit has come at an immense human cost. The comfort of our technological advancements is intertwined with the suffering of the Congolese people.

Recognizing this link, it's our responsibility to address these injustices. We get to contribute to a population that has sacrificed so much for the world's advancements.
